Hong Kong Disneyland

THE HOTEL
We went to Hong Kong in December 2009.
We went as a family with three children aged 9, 10 and 3 years old.
We stayed at Hollywood Hotel. A child friendly hotel with two queen sized beds for all five of us.
Since it was December, it was cold. I was warned by one of the passengers in the same flight with us that we actually need a winter clothing cause it can be quite cold.
But fortunately despite the cold, it is tolerable. I just used my blouse and my shawl only towards the evening. The kids went off with only the usual jacket.

On our first day, we just enjoyed the hotel. We actually went swimming in the pool and its outdoor despite the cold weather. They had a nice jacuzzi near the pool as well. They have a nice slides that goes right into the pool where my kids enjoyed.

The next day we went early. They have shuttle bus that pick us up from the hotel to Disneyland.
And the bus is free. This shuttle service will also pick you up from Disneyland after the closing fireworks at 8.30 p.m. We preferred this cause we had small kids along. And rushing for the train after a day in the park is not a good idea.

Disneyland The Rides
There are a lot of children rides. So my 3-year-old enjoyed it very much.
The Fantasy land: dumbo the flying elephant, cinderella carousel, the many adventures of winnie the pooh (quite a long queue), it's a small world boat ride
The adventureland: catch a raft ride to Tarzan tree house and explore as well as photo taking. Jungle river rides, with nice effects along the rides. Kids enjoyed it.

The show
The Fantasy land: Mickey phil harmagic: A 3D experience, sit at the centre and not in front. They have almost a semicircle screen that will have its effect if you sit at the centre. It is not a live show, so don't sit at the front row. The Golden Mickey is a live show. This one you need to catch the front seat. We love it.

Meet the characters
Photo sessions at the opening of the park. They also have the characters waiting at the Fantasy garden.

The fireworks
These fireworks show is at the closing of the park. We enjoyed it very much.

The food
There are small stalls along the street. We took corns, popcorns and sweet potatoes, ice creams, seafood. That was enough cause the weather is just nice and we don't feel that tired or hungry.

Flower decoration - simple and creative

Eid ul Fitri is nearing.
People are busy shopping for cookie jars, cakes, biscuit, curtains, flowers etc...
And I saw a lot of shops selling flowers...fake ones.
Some are too bright...but some are soooo beautiful.
I was tempted to buy, but had second thoughts over it.
So...how can I afford simple flower decoration without having too much to spend on it....and most importantly I am not a creative person...therefore creating my own bouquet of flower would be disastrous.
Browse in the internet..and found this simple solution.......

I love shopping

Chopin went for a school visit today.
Gave her RM10/- to spend.
Instead of buying things for herself.
She bought brooches for nenek who happened to celebrate her birthday two days back.
At night, this is what she told me.

Chopin: Abok, I didn't know shopping was fun!

Cen 101

Abok: Cen lukis gambar ngan abok lok

Cen: Issna sik pandea lukis...Issna pandea main ajak.

Abok: ?

Old school game / Permainan lama

Those were the times where there is no internet, no x-box, no PSP and no handphone.
So.... how did we spend our time.
There are a few of my favourites.

1. Sliding down the hill.
There is a primary school near my house called SRK Encik Buyong.
Then it seemed that the school was built on an elevated land that almost looked like a hill.
We used an empty box, flattened it and use it to slide down the 'hill'.
We would enjoyed it until late evening when its time to go home.

2. The London bridge.
In this game of course we will this song to sing...except that the pronounciation was way too far from the original song.
Here how it went.

Polindan, polindan
Landan bij is polindan
My fair lady.

Two person will hold each others hand making an arch for the others to go under.
They will catch one person and ask them on a secret code.
The caught person will choose.
This will go on until two groups are formed then ....I kinda forget how it ends...hehehe..
3. Triangle game /segitiga.
All you need is a ball..any ball...and three slippers.
There will be two team playing.
Who will start?
You have to do this paper-scissor-stone thingy to decide who starts.
The team that starts got to throw the ball at the slipper pyramid.
Once the slipper pyramid/triangle is down.
The opposite team will try to hit that team with the ball making sure they would not have enough time to rebuild the slipper triangle.
If they made it ...they scored one point.
If all were hit by the ball before they rebuild the triangle.
The opposite team got the chance to throw the ball.

4. Rondes (I think what it really meant was rounders)
It was a modified version of baseball without the bat.
The rules were almost the same.
Two teams.
The other team got to throw the ball in turns.
The four rest point was there for you stop if you could not manage to run the whole lap.
Then you would have to wait for the nest team member to throw the ball.

4. Batu seremban
Any numbers of players.
We need 7 stones.
Sitting down, throw the stones randomly on the floor.
Choose one stone for you to throw and leave the others for you to grab just in time to catch the stone that you had thrown.
Throw stone "A" up in the air...grab one stone..whilst catching stone "A" before it hits the floor.
Repeat by grabbing stones in twos and threes.
When you are done, put all the 7 stones in your palm.
Flip you hand and catch as many stones possible on the dorsum of your hand.

Typical seven stones used.

This is how you catch the stone at the end. The amount of stone caught is your mark.

5. Main dango/Playhouse
One of my favourites.
Of course we could not afford to buy the cute and nice looking toys available nowadays.
We just grab any unused plates or spoon that we can find.
Pluck all the flowers and leaves that we can find and cook!
Sometimes we went to the extreme.
Using a pot we put is some chocolate bars, eggs and flour till it turnes into kinda cake.
We actually ate it.
And the taste was goooood......

6. Tadpoles
In the field that we played there are a few puddles where tadpoles swim.
We used to pick these tadpoles by using our hands and wondered whether their mum will look for them in the other puddle.

7. The wargame
When our new house was under construction.
There were lots of bid holes for them to put the poles in.
We can actually play in it and hide.
We used this used 'amami' bottle, filled it with water for us to shoot our enemy who will be hiding in the next hole.
Game was done when the house was complete. Sigh.

Almost, except that is was more flattened.

HTC Legend handphone

I got this as a birthday gift.
Initially I thought it was too expensive.
Until I explore more and fell in love with it.
It has gazillions of application...well..may not be the best..but practical enough for me.

4. PDF: Can upload and download pdf files.
5. Facebooking

Must watch movies

Ok.
These are the must watch movies by my rating.
I repeat my rating.
My friend once told me I'm the kinda of person that is hard to impressed.

So, here are the must watch.....

PRINCE OF PERSIA.
Minimal conversation.
Maximum action.

DESCPICABLE ME.
Fun and touching.
The three girls are soooo cute.
Especially Agnes

And....yes...I have not watch AVATAR!

Cen developmental milestone

She is 3 years-3 months & 10 days old.
Got an MMS from Bok Ta.
Cen excitedly told Bok Ta that she drew a man.

Here is the description of the drawing. Imagine this....

There is a hairless head.
Pin-point eyes.
An a curvilinear mouth.
Two straight legs sprout directly from this head.
And on each of this legs, a straight line depicting the arm.

There is no ear, neck nose, trunk, toes or hands.

To me that is the most beautiful drawing that I've seen for the past 7 years.
7 years ago her sisters drewa man with the same characteristic.

Glee

Hehehe....
I heard.
Everybody is head over heels for Glee.
Surprisingly I have never watched a full show.
I know it's on TV.
But so far have no interest to watch the show.
It is not about the show.
It is just about my preference.
Mystery is my first choice.
It was even featured in Oprah Winfrey show.
My progress so far...
1. I watched Glee on Oprah
2. I wrote Glee in my blog
3. Googled up the meaning of Glee.

'I am in a relationship'

Me: Do you know who is the boy?
Akiko: No. Justin Bieber maybe?
Me: Huh?

Me: Who are you in relationship with?
Chopin: Justin Bieber lah!
Me: Owh..OK.

First baby syndrome

This is how breastfeeding failed.
Some mothers lactate the moment they deliver.
Some may take a few days.
Even then, the milk is so little.
The secret is to let your baby suckle.
When baby suckle with time it sends the message to produce milk.
If your baby is sleeping most of the time.
Express the breast milk.
It is going to be painful but don't let this pull you down.
The milk will come.
Don't forget to eat healthy and lots of drink too.
What will the baby have while waiting for your breastmilk?
You can give infant formula but use spoon to feed.
Otherwise baby will forget how to suckle from the breast.

When breast feeding do not wash your nipple with soap.
It will make them dry and easily crack.
Once crack it is going ti be painful.
Let your baby suckle on the other breast while expressing on the painful site.
If you develop fever or pain...see doctor immediately.

'In labour' for mothers to be

A mother experience:
Well there are a few signs to be aware of once you reached the 37th weeks onward.

1. Pain
  • its starts subtle, as if you wanna go to the toilet.
  • The pain can be every two or one hour.
  • When there is regularity to it.
  • You know its time to check whether you are ready to deliver or not.
  • What we don't want is a sudden severe pain. For this one, you run as fast as you can to the labour room! You may or may not be in labour but scared if it is something more serious than that.
2. Blood
  • doctors called it show
  • this blood is mixed with mucus
  • not fresh bleeding as if from a cut
  • you can grab your things and go straight ahead to the emergency or labour room.
3. "Water"
  • No.....you are not having and overflow of bladder but that's you water breaking.
  • Sometimes this is accompanied with pain.
  • It may come with a sudden gush especially when your baby's head has not come down yet.
  • But it may also come in small amount. You may think that you are pee-ing in your pants.
  • For this sign, itis important to go early to thehospital cause you water can break even though you are not due yet.
  • If this is so, if left unchecked one may end up with infection.
  • And this is dangerous to the baby.
4. Fetal kick chart
  • another important sign for mothers to be aware of.
  • As the name given...aware of baby kicking or giving you a punch.
  • Simply mean baby is alive.
  • If you can feel your baby moving inside of you without a kick that is not consider a kick.
  • Another alert to check for baby well being.
  • If not just make sure that your baby kicks and punch at least 10 times within 12 hours.
5. Cervix dilated or not.
  • If your doctor says not fully dilated yet.
  • As best as you can ...do not facilitate the 'urge of pushing'
  • If you do..the cervix will be swollen.
  • If it is swollen, chances for it to dilate is slow...some may not ven dilate anymore..of which can prolong your labour...or worse can end up with complicated delivery.
  • So practice your breathing well.
  • Save the energy
  • Really, really save it for pushing once the cervix is fully dilated.
6. What to pack during delivery
  • A medium size basket
  • baby clothes: pants and long sleeves/short sleeves at least two pairs.
  • mittens and socks
  • newborn size diapers
  • wipes
  • baby bottle with spoon..cause we are aiming for breast feeding
  • towels
  • baby oil
  • baby shampoo

Secret smile

Just finished reading this book by Nicci French.
I like it.
It's kinda thrilling..
That Brendan Block character had a dark evil inside of him.
Poor Miranda. Her life was consumed by this Brendan.
I really hated people around her who were easily charmed by Brendan.
Worse still, they accused Miranda of being obsessed and unable to let go of Brendan.
The ending was kinda twisted.
I never expected that Miranda had staged her own attack and was supported by Brendan's latest girlfriend Naomi.
Its only a few instances that Brendan showed his real character.
Most are hearsay and assumed by Miranda herself.
I hate that detective. Served him right when Miranda and Naomi pack together to teach him and Brendan. :)

Office decor

I spent half of my time in the office.
Might as well treat it as my second home.

Here is one of my plant. This is after a two-day weekend without water.

After given water.

This wall is right in front of me. I paste colourful and beautiful photos to look at whenever I need rest.

Some decor from the flea market. Cheap but nice. A treasure on its own.

Orientation Week

During my students life, I've experienced three orientation weeks.
But none can beat the ones that I had when I entered my bachelor programme.
We had to participate both the university's as well as the respective faculties orientation.
Every morning the bus fetched us from our residential college to the faculty.
They dropped us down at a place where we need to climb up the so called 'death stair' cause it was small, narrow and steep. Yet it was a long way to climb before we reached the faculty.

We were to dress as dull as we can be, reason being to make ourselves unattractive to the seniors.
All ready with snickers....ready to run for our lives.

There were a few rules to follow:
1. All must face downward at all time.
2. We were to greet the seniors like this:
"Good morning, the most honorable senior gentleman sir" and "Good morning, the most honorable senior lady ma'am".

3. Run in two straight lines.
4. Hold on tight the hand of your partner.
5. If your bags got caught by the senior, leave them behind. Save you life first...i.e...continue running.
6. At all times, no seniors could touch us physically.

Every time the lectures are done, we had our tug-of-war event.
Here we divide ourselves into two groups to keep both of the lecture door closed. Seniors kept on pushing from the outside and we would hold as long as we could from the inside.

Some were shouted at. Many cried.

What do we get out of it?
1. The unusual first contact between seniors and juniors could actually turned out being good friends.
2. We respected our seniors.

We don't see this value much nowadays.
Wondering was it due to the orientation or something else?
I'm not sure.
But my 20 sen gut feeling said orientation could bring out this value provided that we don't cross the border.
Cases that went overboard probably due to juniors trying to go against their seniors which could irritate the egoistic seniors.
Well, don't do that cause you'll someday become seniors yourself.

First attempt on crispy crepe

Wished for something like this one.
Looked for the recipes.
Million of them in the net.
Unfortunately I don't have the correct pan to cook it on.
Therefore my crepes are the flabby ones.
What I wanted was the crispy crepe where we can put peanut butter of chocolate on top.
Well, my daughters love them anyway.
Especially the youngest.
She made her own recipes out of it.
At least there's something for afternoon tea. :)
